RESTAURANT
HOSPITALITY CASE STUDY
THE CHALLENGE
THAT AIRBOX HELPED TO SOLVE
In order to stay open and continue revenues flowing, the client wanted to implement a proactive solution to address everyone’s fear about eating out and being safe from Covid-19. Looking to create the safest possible environment for the patrons and employees. Based on the guidance for COVID-19 response for the hospitality industry as well as recommendations from CDC, OSHA and ASHRAE, the owner wanted to incorporate a combination of engineering controls and administrative controls solutions.
- Need to increase the air flow and target the dining area to reduce airborne respiratory droplets in the breathing zone lingering for long periods of time
- Consulted a HVAC professional to investigate increasing filtration efficiency to the highest level compatible with current HVAC system without restricting airflow
- Consider the use of a portable HEPA air filtration to target the breathing zone and airborne pathogens
- Consider upper room UV to address surface contaminants in the air handler to ensure clean air distributed throughout the restaurant

THE SOLUTION
clean air, pure & Simple
4 restaurant locations to outfit with a combination of either 2 AirBox Peak-S units or 1 AirBox Apex unit with a 45 degree shroud projecting the air out at a high velocity covering more than 20+ feet with more than enough cubic feet per minute (CFM) of airflow to disrupt, displace and remove airborne particulate from the dining area. The dining areas were all between 1000-1500 square feet at each location.
- The AirBox Peak units were placed on opposite sides of each other to maximize the air flow and create as much disruption as possible in the dining area and waiting line
- The AirBox Apex unit was placed about 20 feet away from the targeted zone so that it could be out of the way yet still creating enough air flow in the dining area to disrupt, displace and remove the airborne particles
- Client thoroughly researched all options and determined portable HEPA air purifiers were most cost effective solution to address Indoor Air Quality
- The client also installed an in-duct UV Light solution in the air handler. This would ensure mold, bacteria and other surface contaminants being addressed within the HVAC system and allow the cooling coils to remain clean.
DISCUSSION
- Safe Air Plan based on proven scientific technology, certified HEPA air filtration to mitigate the spread of airborne pathogens at the highest efficiency within a budget
- Engineering Controls solution addresses Indoor Air Quality at the highest efficiency and effectiveness, providing the equivalent of the engineering documents from the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) Outdoor Makeup Air in the Breathing Zone with recirculated clean air
- AirBox provided a long term sustainable solution to address the airborne particulate that works in conjunction with the UV light in-duct solution that address surface contaminants in the air handler
- Has received positive feedback from patrons visiting the restaurant to thank the owner for their implemented Safe Air Plan. In addition, the employees are grateful and come to work every day knowing the environment is as safe as can be.
